10 Days Later and It Finally Looks Like a Bathroom

So after all the angst we had about what we needed to do, this is what we accomplished:

  • The bathroom window got framed AND the tub got installed!  If you look on the left, our carpenters enclosed the steam pipe in a rounded wooden cover.  It still needs to be painted.
  • They also framed the window, you can see the detail in the second pic below.
  • The plumbers set the shower joiner too low on the wall the first day but the bottom pic shows it in its corrected position.
  • The toilet got installed.  We will be putting on a solid black wood toilet seat.  One of the grommets was not inserted tight enough and when the toilet flushed on the first test, it leaked a bit at the back.  The plumbers  said they wouldn’t find the right piece, but my husband knew that the toilet being American Standard (the old-fashioned kind, not the new Al Gore, flush once, wipe less kind) he would find the right piece, so he went to one of the hardware stores in the neighborhood and ta-da, found the right piece.  Now, no leak and very tightly sealed. We love being able to see the tree in our backyard from our bathroom window, it’s so exotic (and erotic).

The sink cabinet was originally brown – you can see it here – and thanks to a tip we read on RetroRenovation.com, we used Black Rustoleum on it to paint it black and that covered it perfectly. I’ll try to get a better shot, I was rushing here.

Here is a shot of the shower joiner raised to the correct height:
